About Me…
NEW: A Collection of my Canadian Film & TV Essays...I’ve been writing provocatively on-line since around 1998: about Canadian film/TV, Canadian culture & identity, as well as about comic books and graphic novels. But I also occasionally write fiction, with stories published in Strange Horizons, Daily SF, On Spec, the acclaimed Tesseracts anthology (the 19th volume), and other places over the years. I mention this because I’ve put out a few pulp story collections. And if you enjoy this blog, essays, reviews, and/or any of my websites, one way to show support would be to check out MY FICTION COLLECTIONS and, if they look interesting…buy one! It ain’t PATREON or anything, but it’s a way of showing you think what I’ve been doing is worth doing, and would help keep this blog and the websites up.
End of shameless plug.

Sherlock Holmes Audio & Radio “Movies”
by D.K. Latta I have a Sherlock Holmes story, “The Adventure of the Philanthropic Crook,” in the new anthology, Sherlock Holmes and The Great Detectives from Belanger Books (an anthology of Holmes stories teaming him with other Victorian/Edwardian detectives — … Continue reading
EXCITING FICTION! in Tesseracts Nineteen & Perihelion Magazine!
I tend not to use my blogging and internet “presence” (such as it is) for too much self-promotion — which is kind of stupid since that’s kind of what 80% of it is used for by people! But I’ve just … Continue reading
Still here!
I haven’t posted much recently for largely technical reasons. I mean, partly it was because I’d been sending most of my blog essays to Huffington Post Canada — but I wasn’t even linking to them from here which I had … Continue reading
Entertainment is Education
Another link to a Huffington post piece. Entertainment IS Education — or, “where’s a time travelling Canadian TV hero when you need him?” In which I discuss the way pop culture influences our real world knowledge, and how that relates … Continue reading
Radio Drama – the past and possibly a future
(Continuing from my last post about CBC Radio shutting down its radio drama department…) Radio (and audio) drama is a curious medium. Once the defining entertainment of its age where families gathered around to listen to their favourite radio series … Continue reading
Who Murdered Canadian Radio Drama?
Periodically I’ve mentioned that I want to write more about another passion of mine — radio/audio drama. And I have a bit (see the category links on the right). By radio/audio drama I mean full cast, scripted narratives that includes … Continue reading
“Journey into Space” — apparently it wasn’t the Americans who conquered the moon!
Stop me if you’ve heard this one: two Englishmen, an Australian, and a Canadian walk into a space ship… Sounds kind of like the set-up to a joke, doesn’t it? But actually it’s the character line-up of Journey into Space … Continue reading
Reviewing radio drama — Trust Inc
Workers in Canadian film & TV often complain about how hard it is to get press coverage and reviews, squeezed in between the American releases…and radio drama has even more obstacles. So today I’m looking at a current CBC Radio … Continue reading
A Science Fiction Story
Despite this being my blog — I feel odd about using it for self-promotion, feeling I should be talking about other things. Which is sort of weird (after all, commenting and opining is, itself, narcassistic). But, anyway, I just thought … Continue reading
Audio Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: The Reification of Hans Gerber
Although my usual focus with this blog is Canadian film and TV, part of the point of a blog is to allow me to comment on a broader range of topics — including non-Canadian entertainment subjects and another interest of … Continue reading
